iTherm® Core for Engine Block Casting

iTherm® Core For Engine Block is produced from tool steel forged or rolled blocks using HTS proprietary additive manufacturing technology.

It is a single body component with equal mechanical properties as tool steel monoblock. It has only two connectors for the cooling medium (IN and OUT).

Cooling channels can be freely designed according to cooling/heating requirements of the cast part, not by limitations of using conventional drilling methods.

It is highly customizable to specific customer requirements.

Customer statement

"We are happy with iTherm Core. Cooling power and service lifetime are its main advantages.

We tested HTS IC concept of iTherm core. The cooling power and service lifetime of iTherm Cores convinced us to use it in serial production."

Based on MFT™ and DED technologies we produce components with conformal cooling / flow design and mechanical properties of a forged tool steel block.

iTherm® components have a big impact on cooling and material flow, resulting in shorter cycle times, higher cast/moulded part quality and subsequentially also productivity.

Years of experience and R&D of HTS Group companies, combined with leading OEM customer partnerships gives us knowledge and capacity to help you improve your productivity.

Advantages over conventional core

More freedom designing cooling channels

In comparison with conventionally made core, iTherm® core gives you extra flexibility to bring cooling channels near that critical zones of the core.

Even heat distribution on the working surface

In comparison with conventionally made core, using iTherm® Core temperatures are lower and the heat is distributed much more evenly over the core surface.

Faster cooling

Pictures on the left side show temperature at core surface (a) at cycle finish and (b) before the start of a new cycle. iTherm® Core surface temperature is around 100 °C lower compared to the surface temperature of conventional die core (IR pictures at the right side).

Shorter cycle time

Cooling power

between 10 and 30 W/cm2 of heat extraction

Dimensional range

Diameter 55 - 135 mm (larger diameters available on request)

Height 150 - 400 mm

Therm® Cores are made using forged or rolled tool steel blocks produced in EU.

Most often used grades are 1.2343/H11, 1.2367 or Uddeholm Dievar.

Based on specific customer needs, other steel grades can be used.

Delivery condition

hardness between 42 and 48 HRC

machined to final dimension

Configure your iTherm® Core online

We have developed an online configurator that helps you configure the parameters of iTherm® Core according to your specific requirements.

We have a patented solution to prolong sleeve lifetime by up to 55%, at a lower cost than the conventional sleeve.

Our innovative rod spray lubrication system which lubricates the sleeve across the whole length will prolong the sleeve and plunger lifetime.
