General-purpose hot work tool steel for demanding applications

Key Benefits

  • Excellent toughness, wear resistance, and machinability
  • Produced using ESR remelting procedure for maximum purity and performance
  • Suitable for water cooling and nitriding without significant loss of hardness

Performance Highlights

  • Significantly higher impact toughness compared to SITHERM 2344R
    (at the expense of lower hardness and wear resistance)
  • Certified to NADCA #229 standards
    – However, HTS can guarantee significantly higher mechanical properties and stricter microstructure control

High-toughness hot work steel with excellent thermal fatigue resistance

Key Benefits

  • Achieves high impact and fracture toughness
  • Excellent thermal fatigue resistance at typical die casting hardness levels
  • Certified as Grade C according to NADCA #229
    – consistently exceeds standard requirements in performance

Typical Applications

  • Die casting of light metals and alloys
  • Structural parts exposed to high thermal and mechanical stress
  • Tools used in: Die forging, Aluminum extrusion, Hot stamping

    – Increases working hardness and wear resistance
    – Ideal for applications with abrasive or erosive wear
  • Nickel alloying
    – Enhances toughness, hardenability, and thermal conductivity
    – Promotes uniform properties across tool cross-sections

Material Characteristics

  • Exceptional thermal conductivity even at elevated temperatures
    – Reduces risk of intergranular cracking (“pyrocracks”) due to thermal fatigue
  • High resistance to:
    • Tempering and softening at high temperatures
    • Hot wear, oxidation, and thermal degradation
